Noir Wine Bar
A Not So Noir Wine Bar
The word "noir" comes from the notorious film noir genre and brings with it a dark, tough, cynical, crime filled world that Noir Wine Bar on happy hour gladly doesn't. This friendly neighborhood wine bar with an Asian Fusion food menu combines traditional Japanese Sake and beer choices with a decent wine selection and dinner size food portions. So maybe the restaurateurs are saying leave the "noir" of the dangerous LA streets behind and come enjoy a peaceful, delicious, and filling happy hour!
So start with a glass of wine at %50 off, maybe the Shannon Ridge Sauvignon Blanc at $4 a glass, and pair that with some of this FABULOUS food like the Mango, Avocado, and Salmon Salad. Fresh fruit, sashimi, and a refreshing glass of white wine for $11 seems like a no brainer to this happy hour crew.
They price their meals in hopes that you will be coming in two's or more. Two food items are $14, or $7 a piece, and if you really want to go cheap you can get an ice cold Asahi, 34oz. in the can, for $3! At that price they may put the 7/11 around the corner out of business.
We enjoyed the Baked Tofu and Vegetables, the Mango Avocado & Salmon Salad, the Seaweed & Cucumber Salad, and the Bulgogi Jap Cae very much. Each dish was plentiful, enough for one to leave filled up (or a light meal for two). The flavors were a nice mix, never overpowering the palate, and each can be paired with a glass of wine for an added flavor burst...or that nice light headed feeling we all long for after a torturous day at the office!
Vegetarians take note: there were several fabulous veggie options that left our Veggie Vixen stuffed and she's already been back for more!
If you enjoy friendly staff, filling Asian fare, and cheap wine and beer without the threat of those pesky film noir villains murdering you and steeling your girlfriend, you'll be happy you stopped in for happy hour at Noir Wine Bar.
- Veggie Vixen: Veggies- their Baked Tofu & Vegetables is huge, healthy & tasty. Sauce is savory/sweet, not packed with flavor but is still nice and because it's light it keeps you from feeling heavy. Don't miss!
- Dr. Drinks: MASSIVE portions that I couldn't stop devouring and man oh man I love cheap Japanese beer!
- Happy Hour Queens: We'll be back, if we can find it! Make sure you have the address with you because it doesn't look nearly as nice on the outside as it does inside.
