Mexico Restaurante y Barra
Stop For Border Checkpoint and Tequila
Stepping into Mexico truly makes you feel like you've crossed the border without the hassle of the check point. The owner, Larry, stated that he wanted to express his passion for Mexico's exotic tastes, vivid colors, flamboyant music and invitation to celebration. He didn't miss a Mexican beat. He marries organic ingredients with his knowledge of authentic Mexican cuisine and his flare for 5-star gourmet taste.
From the made to order (to die for) Guacamole to the seasonal Ceviche, everything is as authentic as it comes. The Margaritas are among the best we've had, and perhaps our favorite thing on the happy hour appetizer menu was not food at all, but the awesome Sangrita. Sangrita is a shot of ultra premium tequila, a lime wedge, and a shot of spicy and sweet Mexican Tomato Cocktail. Apparently, this is how many in Mexico start their meal. It warmed us up from the inside out and we will forever more try and start every Mexican meal this way.
The Grilled Mexican Shrimp is a must try, and the tacos taste like they came right out of a Mexican Taco Stand. Their menu also consists of the standard Mexican dishes like Quesadillas, Tamales, etc., but some of the more fun, authentic dishes we've never heard of were the Wood Fired Duck Taquitos and Queso Fundido. Both were worth coming back for.
Now that the happy hour crew found Mexico, on Santa Monica Boulevard, we don't have such a far drive to eat and drink the real stuff.
- Dr. Drinks: One of the best Margaritas I've ever tried.
- Veggie Vixen: Many veggie options on the menu and I loved the Potato Spinach Tacos.
- Happy Hour Queens: You don't need your passport to enjoy authentic Mexican taste. Loved the Sangrita...of course we did!
